Cultur Yucatan

Celestún

Celestún, which means "Painted Stone," is one of the most iconic ports in Yucatán.

The area is home to nearly 560 animal species, approximately 300 of which are birds—representing one-third of all bird species found in Mexico. The pink flamingo is the most representative bird of this zone, where they nest and breed from December to April. This ecosystem is also home to jaguars, spider monkeys, ocelots, and crocodiles.

Visitors can enjoy a boat tour lasting approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Life jackets are provided, and boats have a maximum capacity of 6 people. During the tour, you can discover the wonders of the reserve and appreciate the fresh-water springs (ojos de agua) known as "Baldiosera," "Cambay," and "Tambor."

Ría Celestún Biosphere Reserve: A Protected Natural Area

At the entrance to the port of Celestún lies one of Mexico's most important natural treasures: the Ría Celestún Biosphere Reserve. It serves as a sanctuary for nearly 560 animal species. Amidst the mangroves and fresh water, jaguars, spider monkeys, and crocodiles coexist, but the main attraction is the pink flamingo, which offers a unique natural spectacle during its nesting season.
