Ek Balám

Ek Balám, which means "Black Jaguar" (or "Star Jaguar"), is protected by two walls, and its entrance begins with a majestic Mayan arch.

The site features 45 structures, most notably The Acropolis, which contains the tomb of Ukit Kan Le’k Tok. Other highlights include the Ball Game court, the Twin Pyramids, the circular building known as the Oval Palace, and a stela representing a ruler of Ek Balam, possibly Ukit Jol Ahkul.

A distinctive feature of this zone is its pictorial style, displayed on its buildings through representations of deities, mythical beings, humans, and animals.
