Chichen Equinox 2023: Magical conjugation of archaeology, nature and Mayan wisdom

Martes 21 de Marzo de 2023

More than 10 thousand tourists fully enjoyed the generous descent of God Kulkulkan

Tinum, Yucatán, March 21st, 2023. The conjunction of archaeology, nature and Mayan wisdom, again resulted in the archaeo-astronomical phenomenon of the descent of the God Kukulkán in the Castle of Chichén Itzá, one of the 7 wonders of the contemporary world.

Before the charm and fascination of 10,079 tourists, with this event, which occurred with a radiant Sun, marked the beginning of spring and, according to ancestral beliefs, the fertilization of the earth.

It should be noted that in total there were 28,493 tourists who witnessed this year the equinox of Chichen, since to the previous figure we must add 11,514 on Sunday -when admission is free for nationals-, and the 6,900 on Monday, which arrived despite the bad weather generated by North No. 41.

"It is a pride to show people from all over the world the wise way in which our ancestors marked the beginning of spring and the fertilization of the land to obtain good harvests," said Mauricio Díaz Montalvo, general director of Cultur Yucatán.

Unlike the previous year, when cloudiness affected almost all the time the show occurs; Today, the archaeo-astronomical phenomenon was observed at all times, not a single cloud stood in the way of the descent of the feathered serpent.

The filtering of the Sun in each of the nine bases or levels that the sacred temple has, produced the Mayan magic in the north pottery of the building.

This generosity of Kinich Ahau (God of the Sun) was very applauded by the thousands of attendees, before the cries of Mexico! Mexico! Mexico!, to which the mentions of other nations were later added.

The descent began around 3:45 p.m. and reached its fullness shortly after 5 p.m. The people present waited until the last minute, until the culmination of the combination of light and shadow to retire satisfied.

The applause that resounded in the Castle generated echoes that became the "songs of quetzals", sacred birds for the Mayan civilization, and whose plumage was used to adorn the clothing of kings and priests.

Millennial show

The millenary spectacle that continues and will continue to be valid regardless of the passage of centuries, reminds us about the deep knowledge that the Mayans had in architecture and astronomy, and the "pact" they had with nature.

Chichen, World Heritage Site and One of the 7 wonders of the contemporary world

It should be remembered that, in 1988, UNESCO declared Chichén Itzá a World Heritage Site and almost 20 years later the "New Open World Corporation", called for a global election based on the Internet that resulted in the temple of Kukulkán remaining, since July 7, 2007, as one of the "New Seven Wonders of the Contemporary World".
