Dzibilchaltún Equinox 2023: Reminder of the great Mayan wisdom

Mérida, Yucatán, March 21, 2023. It took three long years so that, again, tourists from all walks of life could enjoy in person the Spring equinox that manifests itself with the passage of the Sun through the Temple of the Seven Dolls in the archaeological zone of Dzibilchaltún.
As is known, the last equinox in which there were attendees was in 2019, since in 2020 and 2022 it was closed as a health security measure, as a result of the pandemic generated by Covid-19, and in 2022 due to a protest that caused the closure of the hostel and the site.
But the inconveniences were left behind and today when the clock struck 6 o'clock, the crowd that came from 4:30 in the morning, prepared their cameras and their cell phones to capture the beautiful moment represented by the archaeo-astronomical phenomenon of this site, a reflection of the great wisdom of our ancestors, which, fortunately, was seen with all its splendor.
The emotion became evident and the expressions of joy too: it was time to recharge positive energies and so they did when the Temple of the Seven Dolls was illuminated with the glow of the Sun that appeared on the horizon and, at a given moment, the celestial disk was at the center of the door, generating the spectacle of light and shadow on the west façade of that structure.
According to data from the staff of the tourist parador that manages Cultur, between yesterday and today the fluency was 1,500 people -300 and 1,300, respectively- of which 60% was national tourism, 20% international and 20% local.
The director of Cultur, Mauricio Díaz Montalvo, reported that everything went according to plan and the day went smoothly and with a white balance.
"We only had the report that a lady bent her foot when walking, which is normal given the conditions of the stony terrain, but nothing serious," he explained.
"We are very happy that after several years, today it was finally possible for people to have been able to attend this natural spectacle, which every time we see them makes us think about the valuable heritage that the Mayans left us," he said.
Already in the afternoon of today, he added, if the weather conditions allow us, we will be enjoying the equinox of Chichén Itzá which, as everyone knows, consists of the descent of the God Kukulkán or Feathered Serpent from the top of the castle of Chichén Itzá, one of the 7 wonders of the contemporary world -
-We hope you can join us ... Something that will leave us all delighted! -Concluded.
