Loltún flor de piedra
Loltún, which in Mayan means "Stone Flower", is considered the most extensive cavern in Yucatan. Extends for more than 8 kilometers, but only 2 kilometers have been explored, and are open to the public.
Loltún Caves lead to a trip into the Mayan underworld, to discover the history that envelops this millennial culture. The site is located at kilometer 7 of the Oxkutzcab-Emiliano Zapata highway, 113 kilometers from Mérida.
You can descend to a depth of 65 meters to discover the rock formations, human settlements dating from the Pleistocene period. Also, there are cave paintings including hands, faces, animals and staggered frets, sculptural pieces, Maya tools, and bones of bison, mammoth, and saber-toothed tiger.
The place is made up of various halls such as the Cathedral, the Canyon Gallery, the Corn Cob, the Room of Stalactites, as well as the room of the musical columns formed by the union of stalactites and stalagmites, which when beaten produce sounds that resemble the word Loltún.
The cave has modern LED lighting that illuminates the rock formations.
